In the immediate El Paso community nine school districts compete for the limited number of bilingual teachers, and although the number of bilingual teachers increases each year, the number of students with limited English proficiency continues to surpass the supply of bilingual teachers. For bilingual special education it is even more of a critical need.  Consequently grant writing has been a major goal for me at the university, allowing opportunities for students, and providing a rich curriculum for the university community.
